Dr. Ping YANG is Vice Director of the National Institute of Metrology (NIM), China and a senior researcher of NIM.
He has a long working experience in both acoustical and related measurement research and quality system management. He has led or participated in more than 10 scientific research projects, published over 30 SCI/EI-indexed papers, and has won a number of ministry-level scientific awards.
Prior to his current position, he has served as Deputy Director of Mechanics and Acoustics Division, Director of Metrological Services and Quality System Department, and Director of Mechanics and Acoustics Division, successively.
As Vice Director of NIM, Dr. Yang supervises NIM’s information management, finance and assets, quality management system, metrological and testing services and outreach to customers, domestic cooperation in metrology, industrialization of scientific and technological achievements, facilities and buildings, and Hepingli campus operation. He is responsible for the preparation and construction of the NIM-Qingdao Base, coordinating the infrastructure construction of the Shenzhen Institute for Technology Innovation (SITI), NIM. He liaises with the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) and the three National Quality Inspection Centers hosted by NIM, and presides over the “digital transformation” task of NIM.
Internally, he is in charge of the General Office, Department of Metrological Services and Quality System, Department of Facilities and Buildings, Center for Metrology Scientific Data, Department of Technical Support, and assists the Director of NIM in overseeing the Department of Finance and Asset Management. He also works as the Director Board’s liaison with the Division of Mechanics and Acoustics, Division of Electricity and Magnetism, Division of Electronics and Information Technology, Center for Engineering Metrology (Center for Measurement Testing and Calibration), Center for Reference Material Development and Management, NIM-Hainan Institute, and the China Metrology Technology Development Group Co., Ltd.
He has served as Chair of the APMP Technical Committee for Quality System (TCQS) from 2019 to 2022. He was elected as Deputy Chairperson of the OIML Digitalisation Task Group (DTG) in October 2022.
